Goodworld's platform includes a powerful feature that allows you to categorize your contacts into affinity groups using groups and tags. This helps in organizing and targeting communications and engagements more effectively. In this article, we will cover the use case for affinity groups, how the tagging infrastructure works, and how to manage this functionality properly.

Affinity Groups Use Case

Affinity groups are a way to categorize contacts based on shared interests or characteristics. On our platform, you can create a tag group called "Affinity Groups." Then, tag individuals with specific tags. For example, you might have affinity groups like "Environmental Supporters," "Youth Volunteers," or "Art Enthusiasts."

An additional feature of our platform is the ability for users to self-tag to these affinity groups when they make donations or complete forms. This self-tagging is enabled through dropdown fields in forms where users can select options that have been pre-tagged by admins.

How Tagging Infrastructure Works

The tagging infrastructure on the Goodworld platform is designed to be flexible and user-friendly.

Here's how it works:

  1. Creating Groups and Tags:

    • Admin Setup: As an admin, you can create and manage groups by visiting the Tag Management feature in the Settings or by adding tags directly to a contact profile.

    • Self-Tagging by Users: When users donate or fill out forms, they can self-tag by choosing options and answers from dropdown fields. These options are linked to specific tags that you have assigned.

  2. Assigning Tags to Dropdown Fields:

    • Form Configuration: When configuring forms, admins can assign groups and tags to the answers in dropdown fields. This ensures that when a user selects an option, they are automatically tagged with the corresponding affinity group. Simply add a Dropdown element to your Custom Attributes or your User Fields, and not the tag icon next to your Options while configuring your Dropdown element.

    • Dynamic Tagging: This dynamic tagging helps in categorizing users without requiring manual intervention, making the process seamless and efficient.

Managing Affinity Groups and Tags

To manage the groups and tags effectively, follow these steps:

  1. Creating and Managing Tags:

    • Navigate to the admin dashboard.

    • Go to the "Tag Management" section in the Platform Settings.

    • Click on "Create New Tag" and enter the name of the new group.

    • Save the tag. This tag can now be used in forms and communications.

  2. Assigning Tags to Form Dropdowns:

    • When creating or editing a form, add a dropdown field.

    • For each option in the dropdown, assign the corresponding tag.

    • Save the form. When users fill out this form, they will be tagged based on their selections.

  3. Reviewing and Editing Tags:

    • You can review all tags in the "Affinity Groups" section.

    • Edit or delete tags as needed to keep your tagging structure up-to-date.

  4. Utilizing Tags for Targeted Communication:

    • Use the tags to filter and segment your contact lists.

    • Send targeted emails or notifications to specific affinity groups.

    • Analyze engagement and participation based on affinity groups to better understand your audience.

Best Practices

  • Keep Tags Descriptive: Ensure that tags clearly describe the affinity group to avoid confusion.

  • Regularly Update Tags: Review and update tags periodically to ensure they remain relevant and useful.

  • Educate Users: Inform your users about the importance of self-tagging and how it benefits them in receiving more personalized communication and opportunities.

By effectively using and managing affinity groups and tags, you can enhance your engagement strategy and foster stronger connections with your supporters. If you have any further questions or need assistance, please contact our support team.

In summary

The groups and tags feature on Goodworld is a robust tool for categorizing contacts for many useful reasons. By understanding and properly managing this functionality, you can streamline your engagement efforts and create a more personalized experience for your users. Happy tagging!
