Understanding the Meta Pixel (Facebook Pixel) Integration

How to connect and use the Meta Pixel integration to track donor activity and conversions on your Goodworld pages.

Written by Richie Kendall

What it does

The Meta Pixel integration lets you connect your own Facebook/Meta Pixel to your Goodworld-powered pages so you can track visitor activity and key donor actions (page views, sign-ups, and purchases) directly in your Meta Ads account. This helps you measure ad performance, build audiences, and optimize campaigns.

How to connect it

  1. Go to your organization's Integrations settings and find the Facebook card.

  2. Click Connect and enter your Facebook Pixel ID (a numeric value, e.g. 123456789).

  3. Click Save. Your Pixel ID is now stored in your organization's settings.

To disconnect, click Disconnect on the same card. This removes the Pixel ID from Goodworld; you'll need to re-enter it to reconnect.

How the Pixel loads

Once a Pixel ID is configured, Goodworld automatically loads the standard Meta Pixel script and initializes it with your Pixel ID when the page loads.

Important: the Pixel only loads — and events only fire — on your live production site. If you're previewing or testing in a staging/non-production environment, no Pixel will load and no events will fire. This is expected behavior, not a bug.

What events are tracked

The integration automatically fires standard Meta Pixel events at key moments in the donor journey:

Event

When it fires

PageView

On initial page load and on every in-app page change

Lead

When a user registers or signs up

Purchase

When a ticket purchase completes (includes value and currency), and when a free (no-ticket) event registration completes

GiveCardPurchase

When a Give Card purchase or a matching-gift transaction completes

Note: only the ticket Purchase event currently includes value and currency data. Other events fire without transaction amounts attached.

Embedded (iframe) pages

If your Goodworld experience is embedded on your own website inside an iframe, tracking works a little differently: your host page — not the embedded Goodworld content — is responsible for loading the Meta Pixel script.

Here's what happens behind the scenes: as events occur inside the embedded experience, Goodworld forwards them to your host page, which then reports them to your Pixel. This ensures the page URLs and UTM parameters tracked reflect your site's context rather than the embed's.

For this to work correctly, your host page must have your Meta Pixel installed. If it doesn't, embedded events won't be tracked at all.

Notes for clients

  • You provide and control your own Pixel ID — Goodworld does not create or manage one for you.

  • Tracking only runs on live production pages, never in staging/preview environments.

  • If something goes wrong with the Pixel on our end, it fails silently — it will never break or interrupt the donor's checkout or signup experience.
