Auction Categories

Organize auction items and help bidders find the items that interest them most.

Written by Raagini Sarkar

Auction Categories make it easier to organize auction items and help bidders quickly find the items that interest them most.

Categories can be added directly to individual auction items and are displayed throughout the bidder experience, giving supporters an easy way to browse and filter your auction inventory.

Managing Auction Categories

To manage the categories available for an auction:

  1. Navigate to your Auction.

  2. Select Manage Categories.

  3. From here, you can review the available category groups and categories or create additional categories for your auction.

Goodworld includes a set of pre-built categories to help you get started. These native categories and their group names cannot be renamed or edited.

You can, however:

  • Add additional categories to an existing category group.

  • Create an entirely new category group.

  • Create custom categories that better fit your auction inventory.

  • Select a badge color when creating a new category.

If the existing categories don't quite match what you need, simply create a new category rather than modifying one of the pre-built options.

Adding Categories to Auction Items

Categories are assigned at the individual auction item level.

To categorize an item:

  1. Open the auction item you would like to update.

  2. Select Add Category.

  3. Choose one or more categories from the available list.

  4. Save your changes.

An auction item can have multiple categories, allowing it to appear in more than one relevant filter.

For example, an item could be categorized as both Accessories and Fashion if both categories are relevant.

How Categories Appear to Bidders

Once at least one auction item has been assigned a category, bidders will see category filtering options when browsing the auction.

They can select categories to narrow the auction inventory and more easily find items that match their interests.

Categories also appear on the individual auction item's page, so bidders can see how each item has been classified.

When a bidder selects multiple categories, Goodworld will display items that match at least one of the selected categories. For example, selecting both Sports and Accessories will display items categorized as Sports, Accessories, or both.

Why Use Auction Categories?

Categories are especially helpful for auctions with larger inventories. By grouping related items together, you can make your auction easier to navigate while helping supporters discover items they may be most interested in bidding on.

Consider creating categories based on the types of items in your auction, such as:

  • Travel

  • Dining

  • Experiences

  • Sports

  • Fashion & Accessories

  • Art

  • Health & Wellness

The categories you choose can be customized to fit the unique inventory and experience of your auction.
