How to Use the Double the Donation Integration

Connect Double the Donation to Goodworld to help donors discover whether their employer offers a matching gift program

Written by Raagini Sarkar

Connect Double the Donation to Goodworld to help donors discover whether their employer offers a matching gift program and access company-specific matching information after they donate.

What Is Double the Donation?

Double the Donation helps nonprofits surface employer matching gift opportunities to donors.

When Double the Donation is connected to Goodworld and enabled on a campaign, donors can search for their employer during the donation process. Goodworld uses the Double the Donation integration to surface participating employers and, when available, present company-specific matching gift information after the donation is complete.

Before You Begin

Your organization must first connect its Double the Donation account to Goodworld.

No activation or additional setup from the Goodworld team is required before connecting the integration.

To complete the connection, you will need your organization's:

  • Public Key

  • Private Key

Find Your Double the Donation API Keys

To locate your organization's API keys:

  1. Log in to your organization's Double the Donation account.

  2. Click your user icon in the upper-right corner.

  3. Select API Keys.

  4. Locate your Public Key and Private Key.

  5. Copy these values so they can be entered into Goodworld.

Each nonprofit should retrieve the API keys associated with its own Double the Donation account.

Who Can Connect Double the Donation?

For nonprofit platforms, users with the native Admin role can connect the Double the Donation integration.

Custom roles can also connect the integration if they include both of the following permissions:

  • Integration - List

  • Integration - Create

Goodworld also has an Integrations Lead role, but this role is only available for company accounts and therefore does not apply when a nonprofit platform administrator is connecting Double the Donation.

Connect Double the Donation to Goodworld

From the platform-level integration settings in Goodworld, locate Double the Donation and begin the connection process.

Enter your organization's:

  • Public Key

  • Private Key

Once the credentials have been entered and the integration is connected, Double the Donation becomes available as a feature that can be enabled on individual campaigns.

The connection is completed once at the platform level.

Enable Double the Donation on a Campaign

Connecting Double the Donation at the platform level does not automatically activate it across every campaign.

Instead, Double the Donation must be enabled on each campaign where you want the matching gift experience to appear.

To enable it:

  1. Open the campaign.

  2. Navigate to the Features tab.

  3. Locate Double the Donation.

  4. Enable the feature.

Once enabled, that campaign's donation experience will include Double the Donation functionality.

Use Double the Donation in Campaign Templates

Like other Goodworld campaign features, Double the Donation can also be configured within a campaign template.

If Double the Donation is enabled in a template, campaigns launched from that template can inherit the feature as part of their default configuration.

This can be helpful for organizations that plan to use employer matching across multiple campaigns.

What Donors See During the Donation Process

When a donor makes a contribution to a campaign with Double the Donation enabled, they will see an option to search for their employer while selecting or entering their donation amount.

The donor can begin typing their employer's name into the search field. The integration searches the Double the Donation employer database for matching companies.

If the donor finds their employer, they can select it and continue with their contribution.

Goodworld then sends relevant information to Double the Donation so that matching gift information can be presented after the donation is completed.

What if the donor cannot find their employer?

A donor does not need to select an employer in order to complete their donation.

If their employer does not appear in the search results, or if they choose to skip the employer search, they can continue through the normal donation process.

What Happens After the Donation

After the donor completes their contribution, Double the Donation matching gift information can appear as part of the post-donation or thank-you experience.

If the donor selected an employer before completing their donation, the matching gift experience can display information associated with that company.

Depending on the employer's available information, this may include details such as:

  • Matching gift eligibility

  • Employer-specific matching guidelines

  • Program requirements

  • Matching gift instructions

  • Next steps for pursuing a match

The information shown is provided through Double the Donation and may vary by employer.

If the Donor Did Not Select an Employer

If the donor did not select an employer during the initial donation flow, Double the Donation may still be able to identify a company based on the donor's corporate email domain when that domain corresponds to a company in its database.

If no company is identified, the donor can be prompted to search for and select their employer from the post-donation matching gift experience.

This gives the donor another opportunity to explore employer matching after completing their gift.

What Goodworld Sends to Double the Donation

The current Goodworld integration is designed to support the employer search and post-donation matching gift experience.

Goodworld pushes relevant data to Double the Donation so that matching gift information can be surfaced to the donor.

Goodworld's role in the integration currently includes:

  • Allowing donors to search for their employer

  • Sending relevant information to Double the Donation

  • Displaying employer-specific matching information after the gift

Is the Donor's Employer Stored in Goodworld?

No.

The employer selected through the Double the Donation experience is not currently stored within Goodworld.

Because the employer selection is not saved to the Goodworld record, administrators cannot currently view or export the selected employer through Goodworld reporting.

The employer selection will not appear in Goodworld donor or transaction exports.

Does Goodworld Track the Employer Match?

No.

The current integration does not track the eventual employer matching gift within Goodworld.

Goodworld supports the employer search and post-donation matching gift experience, but the employer's eventual matching contribution is not recorded or tracked through the Goodworld integration.

Employer Matching Is Separate From the Original Donation

The donor's original contribution is processed through Goodworld as usual.

The Double the Donation integration is an additional layer that helps donors identify employer matching opportunities and access relevant matching gift information after their contribution.

Employer matching programs, eligibility requirements, and matching policies vary by company.

Why Use Double the Donation?

Employer matching programs can allow an individual contribution to generate additional support from the donor's company.

Adding Double the Donation to your Goodworld campaigns makes it easier for donors to discover matching opportunities as part of the donation experience rather than requiring them to independently research their employer's program.

By surfacing employer matching information during and immediately after a donation, organizations can make donors more aware of the opportunity to increase the impact of their gift.

No. No activation from the Goodworld team is required. An eligible administrator can connect the integration directly using the organization's Double the Donation Public Key and Private Key.

Where can I find my Double the Donation API keys?

Log in to Double the Donation, click your user icon in the upper-right corner, and select API Keys. Your organization's Public Key and Private Key can be retrieved from there.

Who can connect the integration?

For nonprofit platforms, users with the native Admin role can connect Double the Donation. A custom role can also connect the integration if it includes both Integration - List and Integration - Create permissions.

Does every campaign automatically use Double the Donation once the integration is connected?

No. The integration is connected once at the platform level, but Double the Donation must then be enabled from the Features tab of each campaign where you want it to appear. It can also be enabled in a campaign template so campaigns created from that template inherit the setting.

No. The donor can continue with their contribution even if they do not select or cannot find their employer.

What happens if the donor skips the employer search?

Is the employer selected by the donor saved in Goodworld?

No. The employer selection is not currently stored in Goodworld and is therefore not available in Goodworld reporting or exports.

Can I report on employer selections in Goodworld?

No. Employer selections are not currently available through Goodworld reporting.

Does Goodworld track whether the employer eventually matches the donation?

No. The current integration does not track the eventual employer matching gift within Goodworld.

What does Goodworld handle as part of the integration?

Goodworld's portion of the experience includes the employer search, sending relevant data to Double the Donation, and displaying matching gift information after the contribution is completed.
