Goodworld makes it easy to bulk import a large number of designations using a CSV file.

Depending on your organization, designations may also be referred to as funds, nonprofits, agencies, programs, or charitable partners. They represent the organizations, funds, or programs that donors can select when making a contribution.

Bulk importing designations is especially useful for organizations that manage a large ecosystem of charitable partners and already maintain this information in a spreadsheet, CRM, or another external database.

Once imported, these designations can be made available through Goodworld’s search experiences so donors can easily find and support the organizations or funds that matter to them.

Your designation data should be saved as a CSV file before beginning the import.

Goodworld also provides a sample CSV containing the available column labels. Downloading this template can be helpful if you want to format your data before uploading it.

Keep in mind that the fields shown in the sample CSV represent commonly used designation fields, but they may not be an exhaustive list of the data you can map during the import process.

From your Goodworld admin dashboard:

You will be taken to the Import Designations or Import Funds screen.

From here, you can review the available fields and download the Sample CSV if needed.

Before uploading your file, select the field Goodworld should use as the primary identifier for each designation.

Choosing the right identifier is important because it allows Goodworld to distinguish one designation from another.

Common options include:

For external nonprofit designations, an EIN can often serve as a unique identifier.

However, EIN is generally not recommended for internal designations. Multiple internal funds or programs may belong to the same organization and therefore share the same EIN or organization identifier.

If you are importing a mixture of internal and external designations, Goodworld recommends using Internal Code whenever possible.

The most important requirement is that the value be unique for every designation in your file.

Once you have selected your identifier:

The column on the left displays the fields from your uploaded CSV.

The column on the right displays the corresponding Goodworld fields where that information can be stored.

Some fields may be mapped automatically when Goodworld recognizes the column based on its smart mapping rules.

Review each mapping carefully and adjust any fields as needed.

Move through each column in your CSV and select the appropriate Goodworld field.

Most information can be mapped directly into native designation fields, such as the designation name, identifier, or other organizational information.

You can also map certain characteristics to Groups and Tags.

Using Groups and Tags strategically can make designation data much more powerful after the import is complete.

For example, your organization might maintain a list of designations that should not be available within certain workplace campaigns. You could map that designation characteristic to a tag such as Prohibited.

Campaign rules could then use that tag to exclude those designations from donor search results.

When planning your import, consider which information you may want to filter, report on, or create rules around later. Mapping those attributes into Groups and Tags can make your designation database significantly easier to manage.

Before continuing, Goodworld will flag any mapping issues that need your attention.

Review these flags and confirm that each relevant CSV column has been mapped to the appropriate Goodworld field.

Once all required issues have been resolved, click Continue.

Goodworld will display a preview of your mapped data before completing the import.

Use this step to spot-check several records and confirm that:

Your designations will then be added to Goodworld and can be used throughout your platform based on your organization’s campaign and designation settings.

Use a truly unique identifier.
An Internal Code or CRM record ID is usually the safest option, particularly when your database contains both internal and external designations.

Download the sample CSV before your first import.
Formatting your source file to align with Goodworld fields can make the mapping process faster and easier.

Think about reporting before you import.
If you anticipate needing to filter or report on a particular designation characteristic, consider mapping that information into a Group or Tag.

Review the preview carefully.
Spot-checking several records before completing the import can help identify incorrect mappings before they are applied across your designation database.

For organizations managing hundreds or thousands of charitable partners, manually creating each designation would be impractical.

CSV imports allow you to bring an existing designation database into Goodworld while retaining the organizational information your team already manages elsewhere.

Once your designations are available in Goodworld, they can power donor search experiences, campaign-specific designation rules, segmentation, and reporting across your fundraising programs.
