Matching

Amplify the impact of workplace giving with automated matching functionality.

Written by Raagini Sarkar

Matching enables organizations to amplify the impact of employee donations by allowing a company to contribute additional funds based on gifts made to a campaign. Rather than asking donors to independently request an employer match, Goodworld allows organizations to configure matching directly within a CSR campaign, making the additional impact visible throughout the donor experience.

Matching can be used as an ongoing employee giving benefit or as a campaign-specific incentive for fundraising initiatives such as Giving Tuesday, disaster relief campaigns, or other time-limited giving events.

How Matching Works

Once Matching has been enabled for a campaign, every eligible donation made to that campaign can contribute toward a company-funded match based on the configured matching rules.

Administrators can:

  • Assign one or more company matchers to a campaign.

  • Configure standard or custom match ratios.

  • Display matching progress to donors throughout the campaign.

  • Generate employer matching invoices.

  • Track matching activity and analytics from within the campaign.

Because matching is configured at the campaign level, organizations have the flexibility to create different matching programs for different fundraising initiatives.

Supported Match Ratios

Goodworld supports both standard and custom matching ratios, allowing organizations to accommodate virtually any employer matching program.

Common examples include:

  • 1:1 Match (Company matches every dollar donated.)

  • 2:1 Match (Company contributes $2 for every $1 donated.)

  • 3:1 Match

  • Custom match ratios

This flexibility allows organizations to support everything from traditional employee giving programs to limited-time promotional campaigns.

Increasing Donor Impact

Matching serves as a powerful fundraising incentive by helping donors immediately understand how their contribution is multiplied.

When matching is enabled, the additional impact can be displayed:

  • Within the campaign Goal Bar

  • On custom campaign pages

  • Throughout campaign messaging and promotional content

Making matching visible encourages participation by showing donors how much further their gift can go through employer support.

Matching Communications

Goodworld includes several tools to help organizations communicate their matching program clearly to donors.

Administrators can:

  • Automatically generate matching disclaimers.

  • Display the matching eligibility period.

  • Customize promotional messaging describing the matching program.

These communication tools help ensure donors understand when gifts qualify for matching while providing organizations with flexibility to promote special matching initiatives.

Matching Invoices

As donations are received, Goodworld can generate a matching invoice for the participating company based on eligible matching contributions.

Instead of manually calculating matching totals, organizations can invoice the employer directly from the campaign, streamlining the fulfillment process and simplifying financial reconciliation.

Common Use Cases

Matching can be configured for both long-term corporate giving programs and short-term fundraising campaigns.

Common examples include:

  • Employee workplace giving campaigns

  • Annual corporate CSR campaigns

  • Giving Tuesday initiatives

  • Disaster relief fundraising

  • Cause awareness months

  • Seasonal or limited-time matching campaigns

Organizations can configure different matching rules for each campaign as needed.

Enabling Matching

To configure Matching:

  1. Associate a company with the campaign.

  2. Open the campaign as an administrator.

  3. Navigate to the Features tab.

  4. Enable Matching.

  5. Configure the desired match ratio and additional matching settings.

Once enabled, all eligible donations received during the campaign will be tracked according to the configured matching rules.

Tracking Matching Activity

Goodworld provides dedicated reporting tools to monitor matching throughout the life of a campaign.

Transactions

The Transactions tab displays matching gifts alongside standard campaign donations, providing a complete view of fundraising activity.

Matching

The Matching tab provides campaign-specific matching information, including:

  • Matching activity

  • Matching analytics

  • Employer matching totals

  • Campaign matching performance

These reporting tools give administrators a centralized view of both donor contributions and employer matching obligations, making it easier to monitor campaign progress and fulfill matching commitments.
